Finding Our Groove

It's been a while since I last posted. We are continuing on with our adventure and an adventure everyday is! Let's see, Rob's mother Ann has come and gone.  She stayed with us for two weeks and we all had a relaxing time.  Ironically, Rob had to return to the states because one of our properties there was burglarized.  While he was home, there was a snow storm and he worked all night, I think he realized how hard he has worked all these years to enable us the opportunity to live out this dream of spending the winter months in beautiful St. Croix.

We took Nana Ann to a few key places during her stay and worked on her bucket list; we visited the Cruzan Gardens and walked through all the pretty tropical flowers and palms, we did a self-guided tour of the Christiansted Fort, drove out to Point Udall, went to the Annual Hibiscus Show at the University and of course spent lots of beach time together.  She thoroughly enjoyed the mother-in-law suite which she territorially renamed "my apartment".  Overall I believe she read 3 books, a simple pleasure indeed.

I learned from Nana Ann what it looks like for a person to have personal peace and not let the external circumstances disturb that peace.  I practiced it for myself a few times and definitely see the need to practice it more often.  Homeschooling and spending almost entirely everyday together as a family is quite intense....as our guests have probably noticed.  We are an active, intelligent, and sensitive family unit and that makes everyday interesting!

Girl Time!

Date Nights

Rob and I have managed to squeeze in some moments alone.  We had the opportunity to catch a local favorite band called Ziggy's Bigfoot twice before they left for the states.  They do a really great variety of cover songs, when they played Prince's Purple Rain, Rob and I took to the dance floor!  The second time we saw them was at our local favorite hangout Ziggy's Market of which I have met 3 of the owners all living out their dream by being here as well.

Our other date was to Savant, which I've mentioned in previous posts.  The food is simply amazing! This time we had Lobster Egg Rolls and Blackened Mahi served with fresh organic produce and rice noodles, delicious!

Homeschool History Lesson

I've concentrated on local history recently and it was an overall success.  I say this because the other day Christian had a conversation about the 'Seven Flags of St. Croix' and named in order the succession of countries St. Croix belonged to since first inhabited by the Arawak and Carib tribes.  If you are interested, you can find a simple yet educating website by clicking the link above.

A visit to the Christiansted Fort
We reinforced the lesson by visiting the fort where we walked through each area and discussed how it's had many uses over the years and what life would of been like living there for the enlisted men and the officer who lived there with his wife and children.  The fort has a mini museum where I took photos of all the posters with historical and scientific material that I plan to use later for a different lesson.

Steps that lead up to the canons
Prepared for battle but with the town so protected by reef there has never been one.
